Bureau of Corrections in Partnership with Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant Industry signed a Memorandum of Agreement with a Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Integrated Malunggay Production and Processing Project under Bayanihan II Program.

The event was held at the Agro Area of NBP, Muntinlupa City today 14 May 2021 with DA-BPI Director, George Y. Culaste, Ph.D. together with Assistant Director Gerald Glenn F Panganiban and Ms. Mary Ann G Guerrero, Chief, Crop Research and Production Support. The guests were welcomed by the Director General BuCor and his team.
Director Culaste, in his message, stated that, “The project is one of the Bayanihan Enterprise Development Program under Department of Agriculture, an example of a productive partnership and cooperation between the Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Plant Industry and Bureau of Corrections. This project is an approach that promotes skills development and enhancement of livelihood especially of our PDL.

It is projected that this will generate income and livelihood through processing of malunggay leaves and seeds. Eating Malunggay is also beneficial to one’s health especially during this time of pandemic. This project can offer much opportunity to our PDL and its nearby communities”, he said.
Ms. Mary Ann G Guerrero of BPI, explained that previous collaboration with BuCor was more on tree-planting and they wanted to improve by value-adding and processing products of Malunggay such as the “Capsule Malunggay”.

This endeavor is fully supported by our Director General Undersecretary Gerald Q Bantag and is grateful for the consistent support of DA and BPI especially with projects that would contribute significantly to the rehabilitation and reformation efforts to the PDL.
