Ceremonial Turnover of Firearms between DOJ and BuCor
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and Department of Justice (DOJ) formally signed the Deed of Donation through a ceremonial turnover that was held at the Department of Justice (DOJ) on 15 December 2025 at the DOJ, Padre Faura St., Ermita, Manila.
The ceremony was attended by DOJ Acting Secretary FREDDERICK A. VIDA together with BuCor Director General, GENERAL GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret.), CESE, CCLH and was accompanied by C/SINSP ANTONIO RODULFO JR., Chief, Firearms and Ordnance Division, and CTO3 Albern B Alcantara, Chief, Property Division and other Chief of Offices under DOJ.
The donation is intended to support BuCor personnel in maintaining peace and order, ensuring the safety of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PsDL) and personnel, and improving the Bureau’s capacity to respond to security concerns. This initiative highlights the DOJ’s commitment to inter-agency cooperation and its ongoing efforts to reform the country’s correction and justice system.
Both agencies emphasized that the donation forms part of the broader efforts to promote public safety and uphold the effective administration of justice.
“For the Bureau of Corrections, this occasion is very meaningful, the allocation of more than 4,400 firearms to Bucor, strengthens our ability to secure the facilities and more importantly enhances the capability and readiness of our correctional personnel rest assured BuCor remains committed to stick internal controls, accurate inventory and cleared command responsibility overall entrusted equipment,” said by DG CATAPANG.
Together, the DOJ, under the leadership of Acting Secretary VIDA and the BuCor continue to contribute to a justice system that not only enforces the law but also supports reformation and social transformation.
