BuCor Recognizes 340 Corrections Officer Trainees, Strengthening Its Future Ranks
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) strengthened its incoming workforce as 340 Corrections Officer 1 Trainees (CO1/T) of the Corrections Officer Basic Recruit Course (COBRC) Class 2025-01, “DESENTRADOS” from the New Bilibid Prison/National Headquarters (NBP/NHQ), were formally recognized during the Recognition Rites held on 26 February 2026 at the Corrections National Training Institute (CNTI).
The trainees, composed of 235 males and 105 females, successfully completed rigorous preparatory training designed to equip them with the competencies, discipline, and professional standards required for their roles as Corrections Officers. They form part of the larger Class “DESENTRADOS”, whose members are assigned across various Operating Prisons and Penal Farms (OPPF) nationwide.
Class DESENTRADOS is composed of 1,179 trainees drawn from different OPPFs, including 340 CO1/T from NBP/NHQ, 300 from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF), 214 from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF), 116 from the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF), 107 from the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF), and 102 from the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP).
In his message, C/SSUPT LUCIO C GUEVARRA, Acting Director of CNTI, reminded the trainees that their recognition marks only the beginning of their journey as Corrections Officers. Quoting Nelson Mandela, he emphasized that true success lies not only in achieving personal dreams but also in becoming instruments of positive change in the lives of others.
He urged the trainees to anchor their service on enduring principles: to perform their duties with integrity and professionalism, to exercise authority with compassion and respect for human dignity, and to lead by example through both word and action.
The ceremony was attended by BuCor Key Officials, Commissioned and Non-Commissioned Officers, Civilian Personnel, and guests, who witnessed the recognition of the trainees’ hard work and readiness to serve.
Beyond the ceremonial rites, the recognition of Class DESENTRADOS reflects BuCor’s continuing efforts to professionalize its ranks and strengthen its human resource capability.
