As part of the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) for the first quarter, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) National Headquarters (NHQ), along with the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), conducted an earthquake drill at the NBP Reservation, Muntinlupa City, as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness among personnel and Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) on 12 March 2026.
The activity was headed by C/SINSP REGINO A DEVARAS, Acting Base Commander of the Reservation Security, Safety, and Cleanliness Service (RSSCS). The drill aimed to ensure that personnel, interns, and PDL are equipped with the necessary knowledge and response mechanisms in the event of an earthquake or similar emergency situation.
Prior to the simulation, a briefing was conducted to orient participants on the objectives of the drill and the appropriate safety protocols to be followed during the activity.
During the drill, participants were guided through proper safety procedures, including immediate protective actions and coordinated movement toward designated safe areas. The simulation allowed personnel to practice emergency protocols and assess their readiness in responding to potential disasters within the facility.
Following the drill, a debriefing session was held to assess the implementation of the activity. The discussion focused on identifying areas for improvement, addressing challenges encountered during the simulation, and determining the necessary actions to further strengthen the emergency response system in the Bureau.
The earthquake drill underscores the commitment of the BuCor to safeguard lives and ensure that everyone within the reservation remains prepared and responsive in times of emergency.
