Iwahig, Puerto Princesa City – The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) conducted an information drive campaign for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) on 13 May 2026 at the Central Sub-Colony (CSC) of Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF). The activity is held in preparation for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), aimed to educate PDL on the importance of exercising their right to vote even while inside the correctional facility.
The event was personally attended by COMELEC Chairperson GEORGE ERWIN M. GARCIA together with other Commissioners and Officials of the agency. During the program, Chairperson GARCIA encouraged the PDL to actively participate in the electoral process, stressing that their right to vote remains an important part of their role as citizens.
He also shared that participating in elections can contribute to the overall reformation of PDL inside the facility. Following the information drive, the COMELEC delegation distributed goods and food packs to the PDL, bringing a positive and meaningful atmosphere throughout the activity.
