Manila, 06 June 2026 — The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), under the leadership of the Director General, GENERAL GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret.), CESE, CCLH, joined the Kalayaan Government Programs and Services (GPS) and Diskwento Caravan held today at Rizal Park, Luneta, Manila, as part of the nationwide celebration of the 128th Philippine Independence Day.
The weekend event, scheduled from 06 to 07 June 2026, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, brings together various government agencies to deliver public services and assistance directly to Filipino citizens.
As part of the activity, the public may access several government-led services, including the Diskwento Caravan of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Kadiwa ng Pangulo offering affordable goods, and a Military-Civic static display showcasing government and uniformed service capabilities.
DG CATAPANG visited the event area, including the four (4) BuCor participating booths set up for the activity. These included two (2) booths for PDL-made products from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) and the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) displayed under the Diskwento Caravan, and 2 booths for the Kalayaan Government Programs and Services (GPS).
Present during the visit was MS. JORDINE ROSE R. OCON, CrFA, MPS, Director, Directorate for Planning and Management (DPM) and Chief, Strategic Communications Office (SCO), who joined the Director General in inspecting the booths and engaging with personnel and visitors.
The BuCor GPS booths featured services on the ARTA Citizen’s Charter, PDL Inquiry through the PDL Documents and Processing Division (PDPD), and the Strategic Communications Office (SCO) Information Drive and Educational Tour. These services provided visitors with information on BuCor processes, PDL-related inquiries, public assistance channels, and the Bureau’s programs on safekeeping, reformation, and public awareness.
The PDL product booths showcased livelihood products made by PDL from NBP and CIW, highlighting BuCor’s continuing efforts to support reformation through skills development, productivity, and livelihood opportunities.
DG CATAPANG also joined participating government agencies in supporting the Administration’s whole-of-government approach to public service. BuCor’s participation reflects its commitment to national service, civic engagement, and meaningful involvement in government initiatives that bring essential programs closer to the people.
The Kalayaan GPS serves as one of the major public service components of the Independence Day celebration, allowing citizens to avail themselves of affordable goods, basic services, health assistance, and public information in one accessible venue.
Through its participation, BuCor reaffirmed its support for the spirit of freedom, unity, and public service embodied in the Independence Day commemoration. The Bureau continues to uphold its mandate of safekeeping and reformation while actively contributing to broader government efforts that promote service, responsibility, and nation-building.
The event remains open to the public until 07 June 2026 at Rizal Park, Luneta, Manila.
