The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) joined the nation in commemorating the 128th Philippine Independence Day through a Simultaneous Flag Raising Ceremony participated in by its Operating Prisons and Penal Farms (OPPF) nationwide.
The solemn observance was held at the BuCor National Headquarters and simultaneously conducted across the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), Correctional Institution for Women–Mandaluyong (CIW–Mandaluyong), Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF), Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF), San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF), Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF), and Leyte Regional Prison (LRP).
The ceremony gathered Commissioned Officers, Non–Commissioned Officers, Civilian Personnel, and trainees in a unified act of respect for the Philippine Flag and the ideals it represents: sovereignty, sacrifice, public duty, and national identity.
The simultaneous observance highlighted BuCor’s institutional solidarity with the Filipino people in honoring the historic proclamation of Philippine Independence on 12 June 1898. Across the Bureau’s facilities, personnel stood in formation as the National Flag was raised, reaffirming the continuing responsibility of government service to protect the dignity, order, and welfare of the Republic.
As an agency entrusted with the safekeeping and reformation of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL), the Bureau’s participation underscored that freedom is both a national inheritance and a public responsibility. Within the corrections system, the ideals of independence find expression in discipline, reform, accountability, and the commitment to help restore lives toward lawful and productive citizenship.
Under the leadership of BuCor Director General, GENERAL GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret), CESE, CCLH, the Bureau continues to align its programs and operations with the broader vision of a humane, orderly, and reform-centered corrections service.
Through the simultaneous flag raising rites, BuCor honored the courage of the nation’s heroes and renewed its commitment to serve as a disciplined, professional, and reform-driven institution in the continuing work of nation-building.
