BuCor Reinforces Disaster Preparedness Through Nationwide Earthquake Drill

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) participated in the conduct of the 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on 18 June 2026 including Operating Prisons and Penal Farms (OPPFs) nationwide, taking part in the activity.
The NSED is a quarterly disaster preparedness campaign in the Philippines led by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD). It aims to enhance public awareness, strengthen disaster preparedness, and test the response capabilities of government agencies, institutions, and communities in the event of an earthquake.
During the drill, BuCor personnel and Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) actively took part in practicing the universal survival steps during an earthquake: Duck, Cover, and Hold. The activity also served as an opportunity to assess coordination, communication, and emergency response procedures across BuCor facilities.
The Directorate for Security and Operations (DSO), headed by C/SSUPT EDUARDO P GOGORZA, Acting Director, Chief of the Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS), and Chief of the Communication and Tactical Operations Division (CTOD), facilitated the conduct of the nationwide drill.
Meanwhile, C/SUPT MICHAEL M MARTIN, DPA, Base Commander of the Reservation Security, Safety, and Cleanliness Service (RSSCS), led the monitoring of the situation within the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) Reservation.
BuCor’s participation in the NSED reflects its continued commitment to disaster preparedness, personnel safety, and institutional readiness in responding to emergency situations.
