The Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) successfully conducted Run for a Cause 2026: “Hakbang ng Bayanihan, Kalusugan sa Piitan” on 28 June 2026, at Williams Parking, Greenfield Development Corporation, reaffirming its commitment to the health and welfare of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).
The fundraising event gathered 753 registered participants from government agencies, private organizations, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), religious volunteer groups, sponsors, running communities, Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) personnel, and the general public. Proceeds will help support the medical and welfare needs of CIW PDL, promoting health, wellness, volunteerism, and stronger collaboration among stakeholders.
The activity also served as an avenue to raise public awareness of the continuing programs and initiatives of CIW in promoting the reformation, welfare, and successful reintegration of PDL.
The program opened with participant registration, followed by welcome remarks from CT/CSUPT MA CECILLA V VILLANUEVA, MD, CPRO, Deputy Director General for Reformation (DDGR), and Director, Directorate of Health and Welfare Services (DHWS). In her message, she emphasized the importance of collective action and sustained partnerships in advancing the welfare of PDL.
Participants then joined a Zumba session and warm-up exercises before competing in the 5-kilometer and 3-kilometer race categories. With the support of event marshals, volunteers, medical teams, security personnel, and partner agencies, the fun run was carried out in a safe, orderly, and efficient manner.
Top finishers in both race categories were recognized during the awarding ceremony, celebrating their athletic achievements and meaningful contribution to the cause.
The event concluded with an inspirational message from C/SSUPT DAISY SEVILLA-CASTILLOTE, Superintendent, who expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the participants, event sponsors, volunteers, partner organizations, stakeholders, Greenfield Development Corporation, and CIW personnel for their invaluable support in making the event a success. She likewise recognized the generous contributions of the institution’s sponsors, whose partnership and commitment greatly contributed to the successful implementation of the fundraising activity.
