A total of 1,000 newly recruited Corrections Officers of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) formally took their oath today in a simultaneous ceremony conducted across the Bureau’s Operating Prisons and Penal Farms (OPPFs), marking the beginning of their service in the country’s correctional system.
BuCor Director General, GENERAL GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret), CESE, CCLH, administered the oath and officially welcomed the new recruits to the Bureau.
Of the 1,000 recruits, 455 came from the National Headquarters (NHQ), New Bilibid Prison (NBP), and Correctional Institution for Women (CIW); 200 from Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF); 92 from Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF); 90 from San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF); 83 from Leyte Regional Prison (LRP); and 80 from Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF).
Following their oath-taking, the recruits will undergo the required training to equip them with the knowledge, discipline, and skills necessary for correctional service. The training is expected to prepare them for their duties in safekeeping, security operations, reformation support, and the humane management of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).
The addition of the new recruits forms part of BuCor’s continuing efforts to strengthen its personnel complement and enhance operational readiness across its prison and penal farms nationwide.
DG CATAPANG emphasized the importance of professionalism, discipline, accountability, and commitment to public service as the recruits begin their journey in the correctional service.
Upon completion of their training, the new Corrections Officers are expected to support BuCor’s mandate of safekeeping and reforming PDL under its custody.
