The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) reinforced its commitment to employee health, institutional unity, and workplace well-being through the simultaneous conduct of the BuCor Health and Wellness Day across its Operating Prison and Penal Farms (OPPFs) nationwide.
At the National Headquarters (NHQ) and New Bilibid Prison (NBP), BuCor Director General, GENERAL GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret.), CESE, CCLH, led officials, personnel, and employees in an energetic Zumba session held at the Sunken Garden in Poblacion, Muntinlupa City.
Despite the rainy weather, the activity proceeded as scheduled, demonstrating the participants’ enthusiasm and commitment to health and wellness. Rain or shine, BuCor personnel actively joined the session and maintained the event’s lively atmosphere.
Conducted simultaneously across BuCor facilities, the wellness initiative underscored the Bureau’s continuing efforts to cultivate a healthy, active, and resilient workforce. The event served as a collective reminder that the effective performance of correctional duties requires professional competence and discipline, as well as sound physical and mental well-being.
DG CATAPANG’s participation highlighted the importance of leadership by example and strengthened the sense of solidarity among personnel. His presence encouraged employees to embrace health and wellness as essential components of public service, particularly in a demanding correctional environment where alertness, endurance, and emotional resilience are vital.
The gathering also took on a celebratory atmosphere as BuCor personnel greeted the Director General in advance of his birthday on 11 July 2026.
Through the simultaneous activity, BuCor personnel from different OPPFs were united by a shared commitment to fitness, teamwork, and institutional excellence. The event also provided employees with an opportunity to strengthen professional relationships, relieve stress, and recharge in a positive and supportive environment.
The BuCor Health and Wellness Day forms part of the Bureau’s broader efforts to promote a workplace culture that recognizes personnel welfare as fundamental to organizational effectiveness. By integrating wellness activities into its institutional programs, BuCor continues to support the holistic development of its workforce while advancing a more responsive, disciplined, and people-centered correctional service.
