The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) officially concluded the BuCor Summer Sports League (BSSL) 2026 through a Zumba Competition and Awarding Ceremony held on 22 July 2026 in front of the Administration Building Façade, National Headquarters (NHQ), New Bilibid Prison (NBP) Reservation, Muntinlupa City.
The activity commenced with a lively 10-minute simultaneous Zumba performance participated in by three competing teams: Correctional Institution for Women (CIW)-Mandaluyong, Office of the Director General (ODG) Cluster, and the Directorate for Reception and Diagnostics-Reception and Diagnostic Center (DRD-RDC). This was followed by a two-minute freestyle Zumba presentation from each team, showcasing their creativity, synchronization, teamwork, and enthusiasm.
C/SSUPT GARY A GARCIA, RCrim, MSCA, NBP Superintendent, delivered the welcome remarks, recognizing the dedication, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship demonstrated by all participants throughout the tournament. He commended the personnel for exemplifying perseverance, unity, and mutual respect in every sporting event and congratulated the champions and awardees for their outstanding performances and active participation in the league.
The awarding of certificates, medals, and trophies was led by C/SSUPT EDUARDO P GOGORZA, Director of the Directorate for Security and Operations (DSO), concurrently Chief of the Communications and Tactical Operations Division (CTOD) and Chief of the Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS), together with MS. JORDINE ROSE R OCON, CrFA, MPS, Director of the Directorate for Planning and Management (DPM) and Chief of the Strategic Communications Office (SCO); C/SSUPT GARCIA; and C/SUPT MICHAEL M MARTIN, DPA, Chairman of BSSL 2026, Base Commander of the Reservation Security, Safety, and Cleanliness Service (RSSCS), and Sports Event Coordinator.
Awards were presented to the champions and outstanding performers across the League’s various sporting events, including the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments, Men’s and Women’s Volleyball, Badminton, Track and Field (5-Kilometer Run), Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Chess, Tug of War, Darts, Obstacle Course, Dodgeball, and Pickleball competitions.
For the Zumba Competition, the DRD-RDC emerged as Champion, followed by the ODG Cluster as First Runner-up, while the CIW-Mandaluyong secured the Second Runner-up title.
Delivering the closing message on behalf of BuCor Director General GENERAL GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret.), CESE, CCLH, C/SSUPT GOGORZA congratulated the champions, participants, and organizers for the successful conduct of the Summer Sports League. He encouraged personnel to carry the values demonstrated throughout the competition, particularly teamwork, discipline, resilience, and unity, into their daily responsibilities in pursuit of a stronger and more responsive BuCor.
The ceremony concluded with the formal declaration of the closing of BSSL 2026 by C/SUPT MARTIN, marking the successful culmination of this year’s sports league.
The successful conduct of the BSSL 2026 reflects the Bureau’s continuing commitment to promoting camaraderie, teamwork, and employee wellness while fostering a culture of excellence, professionalism, and unity among its personnel in support of the Bureau’s mission of public service.
