2nd Culminating Activity for 2024

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), headed by Director General GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR, AFP (Ret.), CESE, CCLH conducted its second culminating activity this 2024 for the 72 released Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) today, February 29, 2024, at the Social Hall, New Bilibid Prison (NBP) Reservation, Muntinlupa City.
With the theme “Paglaya para sa Bagong Umaga, Pag-ibig at Pag-asa’y Muling Matatamasa”, the 72 released today were included in the total number of 706 PDLs released Bureauwide from February 1, 2024 to February 29, 2024. This is the result of the simultaneous culminating program facilitated by the External Affairs Section (EAS) of all Prison and Penal Farms (PPFs). This includes 345 from the NBP, 134 from Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF), 66 from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW), 56 from San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF), 47 from Leyte Regional Prison (LRP), 31 from Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF), and 27 from Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF).
The 361 majority of the 706 released PDLs already served their maximum sentence, 203 qualified for parole, 111 were acquitted, 27 were granted probation, 2 were granted a conditional pardon, one posted a bond and one was released due to a writ of habeas corpus.
Plaques of Appreciations were awarded to the Board of Pardon and Parole (BPP) represented by ATTY. GARY CAMITAN AURE, MPA, Deputy Executive Director, and the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) represented by ATTY. REVELY RAMOS-DACPANO, Regional PAO, in recognition of their commitment and dedication to helping the BuCor in its efforts to alleviate congestion in prison facilities.
The Bureau’s commitment to reform and reintegrate individuals into society will be exemplified when PDLs are granted freedom, marking this year as their fresh start.
