With the theme “Kalayaang kaloob sa bagong taon na makapagsimulang muli sa makabagong panahon”, the 54 released today were included in the total number of 632 PDL released Bureauwide from January 1, 2024 to January 30, 2024. This includes 31 from the NBP, 13 from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW), four (4) from Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF), three (3) from Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF), two (2) from Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF), and one (1) from Leyte Regional Prison.
The 632 released were a result of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and BuCor’s computation of time served with the assistance of lawyers from the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO). The 503 majority of the 632 released PDL already served their maximum sentence, 86 were acquitted, 24 qualified for parole, and 19 were granted probation.

The BuCor, headed by Director General GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR, AFP (Ret.), CESE, CCLH, will continue in its bid to alleviate overcrowding in its prison facilities nationwide, working closely with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO).
