CIW celebrates 93rd Founding Anniversary

On February 14, 2024, the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) commemorated its 93rd Founding Anniversary with a jubilant event attended by esteemed dignitaries, including the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret), CESE, CCLH, CT/CSUPT MARIA FE R MARQUEZ, Head Executive Assistant (HEA), along with other Key Officials. The theme of the celebration, “Empowering People, Improving Lives Towards Building a Better and Safer Future,” permeated the entire event. Various presentations showcased the establishment’s transformation trajectory throughout its extensive history.
The introduction of the cashless system stands as a major highlight of the event, marking a significant step towards a more secure and transparent financial environment within CIW. Spearheaded by C/SSUPT DAISY SEVILLA- CASTILLOTE, the initiative aims to curb illicit activities and bolster accountability within the institution.
Furthermore, CIW underscored its dedication to modernization and operational efficiency by inaugurating and blessing the new CIW Administrative Building. The new facility symbolizes a commitment to providing infrastructure to support the institution’s mission of rehabilitation and reintegration.
CT/CSUPT MARQUEZ emphasized the necessity of coordinated initiatives to facilitate the social reintegration of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL). Through partnerships with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), BuCor endeavors to facilitate skill development and employment prospects for PDL, with the ultimate goal of diminishing the probability of recidivism. In addition, she reiterated the necessity of providing assistance to the CIW’s Work and Livelihood Program. Through these initiatives, post-release PDL will not only be granted access to sources of income but also be recognized by society as valuable community members capable of making positive contributions.
C/SSUPT CASTILLOTE also extended heartfelt appreciation towards GENERAL CATAPANG for his steadfast backing, underscoring the pivotal role it played in propelling the institution forward. She also lauded the unwavering commitment of every individual who contributes to the advancement of the institution’s core objectives.
Happy 93rd Founding Anniversary, CIW!
