267 PDL were Freed and Given New Hope in Life

The Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) headed by CTSUPT ELSA A ALABADO, Acting Superintendent organized the Culminating Program of the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) from the seven Operating Prisons and Penal Farms of the Bureau of Corrections with the theme, “Paglaya’y Mahalaga na Umaasa, Kalungkuta’y Maiibsan sa Muling Pagyakap ng Panibagong Pag-asa” on May 15, 2023. The event is held in conjunction with the Mother’s Day celebration as an expression of appreciation and gratitude for their selflessness and sacrifices.
 
Among those in attendance were SENATOR IMEE MARCOS, HONORABLE JESUS CRISPIN REMULLA, JR, USEC DEO L. MARCO, HON. FRANCIS JOHN TEJANO of the Department of Justice, ATTORNEY PERSIDA V. RUEDA-ACOSTA, Chief of Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), ATTORNEY SERGIO R CALIZO, JR, Chairperson, Board of Pardons and Parole, Mr. VIRGILIO DULDULAO JR., Chief, Parole and Probation Office of Mandaluyong City together with BuCor Director General, GENERAL GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR, AFP (Ret.), CESE.
The event’s Guest of Honor, SENATOR IMEE MARCOS, extended her Mother’s Day greetings to all PDL Mothers and delivered a message, saying, “Iisa Man Lang Ang Makalaya Tuwang Tuwa Na Langit, Mas Matutuwa Pa Ang Langit Pag Marami Pa Ang Makakalaya”,. In addition, the senator emphasizes the administrative and legislative provisions of the Standard for the treatment of prisoners. She also urges the Justice system to expedite the release of ailing and elderly PDLs following the process and guarantees to do her utmost to ensure their release.
 
Two hundred sixty-seven (267) Persons Deprived of Liberty were discharged as a result of Parole, Expiration of Sentence, Acquittal, Probation, and Cash Bond. In addition, twenty-two (22) released CIW PDL received financial assistance and a hygiene kit from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The Culminating Program is also made possible by the assiduous effort of the PDL Documents and Processing Division (PDPD), External Relations Unit, and Correctional Institution for Women personnel, Under the direction of BuCor Director General, General GREGORIO PIO C CATAPANG JR.
