30th National Corrections Consciousness Week Kicks Off with Thanksgiving Mass

October 21, 2024 – The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has kicked off its weeklong celebration of the 30th National Corrections Consciousness Week (NCCW) with the theme, “Repormasyong Makabago para sa Paglayang Makatao Bagong BuCor, Bagong Pilipinas ay Matatamo,” and with a Thanksgiving Mass following the traditional Monday Flag Raising Ceremony at its headquarters in Muntinlupa City. This celebration will emphasize ongoing commitment to the rehabilitation and transformation of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) across the country.
BuCor DIRECTOR GENERAL GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG, JR., AFP (Ret), CESE, CCLH led the ceremony with key officials, commissioned and non-commissioned officers, and civilian personnel joining the event.
The NCCW, now in its 30th year, continues to champion the rehabilitation of PDLs by raising public awareness and fostering a culture of second chances. BuCor has lined up several activities throughout the week that focus on improving the welfare of PDLs and fostering a culture of hope and transformation within correctional facilities.
The week’s activities include a “Run-for-a-Cause”, TB-Free Generation Campaign, the blessing of the newly constructed building of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) Hospital, and release of qualified PDLs. In addition, there will be a series of programs engaging PDLs in recreational and rehabilitative activities, including a Football Festival featuring players from the Football Club Bilibid.
As BuCor continues to drive meaningful reform under the leadership of DG CATAPANG JR., these week-long activities are expected to create lasting impacts on both PDLs and the broader community. The NCCW celebration highlights the bureau’s unwavering commitment to transforming the correctional system into one of dignity, hope, and opportunity for all.
