Iwahig, Puerto Princesa – On September 2, 2023, the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) conducted a General Lusong Activity for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL)- it is a prison activity, wherein they are encouraged to participate in agricultural activities as part of their reformation program.

C/CINSP GARY A GARCIA, RCrim, MSCA, IPPF Superintendent, spearheaded the said activity in which a total of four hundred (495) PDL from the Medium and Minimum categories were checked out with proper escorting units to participate in the land and seed preparation for a 2-hectare vegetable plantation and 60-hectare rice field at IPPF Central Sub-Colony.

This activity aims to continuously strengthen agricultural initiatives at IPPF which is in line with the DA x DOJ Reformation Initiative for Sustainable Environment for Food Security (RISE) Project. It is also part of the reformation program for PDL under the Work and Livelihood Program where they are provided with different livelihood opportunities that would sustainably improve their income as PDL workers. In parallel to this, participating PDL also gained additional Good Conduct and Time Allowance (GCTA) which will contribute to the facilitation of their early releases.
