DOJ Katarungan Caravan extends Legal Aid to Elderly PDLs

The Katarungan Caravan of the Department of Justice (DOJ) provided free legal aid to elderly Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) on July 12, 2024, at the New Bilibid Prison-Medium Security Camp (NBP-MedSeCamp) in Muntinlupa City.
Led by UNDERSECRETARY MARGARITA GUTIERREZ and DOJ Action Center (DOJAC) Program Director JOAN CARLA GUEVARRA, the Katarungan Caravan was a collaborative effort involving the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) and volunteer private lawyers.
This collaborative effort addressed the pressing legal needs of approximately 500 elderly PDLs incarcerated at the facility. The Katarungan Caravan offered immediate legal support and reignited the belief in a better tomorrow among the elderly PDLs.
In addition to legal assistance, UNDERSECRETARY GUTIERREZ donated school supplies to PDL students of NBP and the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City. The gesture emphasized the importance of education and skill development for PDLs seeking a brighter future.
Under the leadership of Director General GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret.), CESE, CCLH, the Bureau of Corrections remains committed to providing equal access to justice, regardless of circumstances or age. The successful implementation of the Katarungan Caravan underscored the DOJ’s unwavering dedication to upholding the rights of all citizens, regardless of their circumstances.
