The BuCor Director General, GENERAL GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret.), CESE, CCLH, conducted a significant command visit to the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City on August 01, 2024.
CIW Acting Superintendent, CT/SUPT MARJORIE ANN P SANIDAD, MD, RN, FIAMS, provided a comprehensive presentation of the institution’s accomplishments, ongoing initiatives, and plans. During the dialogue, DIRECTOR GENERAL CATAPANG underscored the bureau’s strategy to implement capacity-building programs and promote qualified personnel. He also emphasized the necessity of appointing a female physician, preferably an obstetrician-gynecologist, and the significance of maintaining up-to-date medical records for all Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).
The Director General also commended the Work and Livelihood Program, particularly the solar lights project and Project ARTE by USEC MARGARITA GUTIERREZ of the Department of Justice (DOJ), which markets PDL products on ZALORA and LAZADA. He suggested additional training and seminars to enhance the skills of PDLs.
The CIW was also instructed to coordinate with José Rizal University (JRU) and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) for tertiary education programs.
The visit concluded with a tour of the Maximum Security Camp, showcasing the ongoing improvements and commitment to the institution’s mission.
