Earlier today, the members of Upsilon Sigma Phi headed by USEC DEO L. MARCO of the Department of Justice (DOJ) conducted a medical mission and feeding program to 500 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in the New Bilibid Prison-Minimum Security Camp (NBP-MinSeCamp).
The guests were welcomed and assisted by NBP-MinSeCamp Key Officials and personnel led by C/SINSP ROY S VIVO, Camp Commander; C/INSP CARLITO O SANTOS, Deputy Camp Commander; C/INSP JOEVI T VALENZUELA, Deputy Camp Commander for Administration; CSO2 Simplicio D Penuela Jr, Deputy Camp Commander for Reformation and CSO2 Robert Q Villanueva, Deputy Camp Commander for Security and Operations.
Upsilon Sigma Phi is the oldest fraternity in Asia since 1918 pioneered by the University of the Philippines students nationwide. History entails that many Upsilonians demonstrated their respective prowess in the various industries and sectors in the country. Their act of kindness to the PDLs incarcerated in this prison camp proved their desire to provide humanitarian service to the community and fellow Filipinos.
USEC MARCO and members of the fraternity distributed food packs that they cooked and prepared in the prison camp. Subsequently, USEC MARCO expressed his profound gratefulness for the dynamic participation of PDL beneficiaries as well as the Corrections Officers for the event to be carried out smoothly. They also rendered a song to the PDLs where they felt the relief of sadness for a while.
PDL beneficiaries who need medical attention were given priority by DR. JUAN MIGUEL ROBERTO DELGADO, a Medical Practioner and member of the Upsilon Sigma Phi who was assisted by CT/SINSP KRISTOFFER F SOLIS, MD, and nurses of the Infirmary Section of NBP-MinSeCamp. PDLs were given a prescription on the evaluation of the Medical Doctor and received vitamins and medicines as well.
As a token to USEC MARCO and members of the Upsilon Sigma Phi for their unending support and kindness towards the PDLs, C/SINSP VIVO presented a painting from a Kulayaan Artist. The NBP-MinSeCamp is optimistic that PDLs won’t lose their hope while serving their sentence and showing penitence to whom they have made mistakes and most especially to the Almighty God because lots of organizations are willing to help the Bureau in providing basic needs and necessities of these PDLs.
