BuCor Judo Team Secure Medals at 2024 Uniformed Services Sports League

On October 17, 2024, athletes from the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) displayed their athletic talents during the Judo event at the 2024 Uniformed Services Sports League, held at Medical and Scientific Athlete Service (MSAS) in Pasay City.
Under the guidance of their coach, Coach Maria Teresa De Castro from the National Headquarters and support of C/SUPT ALFREDO DEVARAS JR, C/INSP REGINO DEVARAS, C/SINSP PURIFICACION HARI, the athletes showcased their skills, bringing home several medals across various categories.
Gold Medalist:
1. CO1 Erika Joy Ponciano from Correctional Institute for Women’s (CIW) dominated the +63kg Women’s Division clinching the prestigious gold medal.
Bronze Medalists:
1. CTO1 Janet Devaras from the National Headquarters (NHQ) won bronze in the
-57kg Women’s Division
2. CO1 Marc Ariescor Devares from NHQ took home a bronze medal in the -100kg Men’s Division
3. CO1 Von Ryan Gabion from NHQ earned bronze in the -73kg Men’s Division
Semifinalists:
1. CSO2 Hector La Torre from CIW reached the semifinals in the -90kg Men’s Division.
2. CO2 Ervin Rafallo from New Bilibid Prison (NBP) competed in the +100kg Men’s Division semifinals.
3. CO1 Erwin Bermudo from NBP advanced to the semifinals in the -81kg Men’s Division.
The success of BuCor’s athletes has brought pride to their respective units, highlighting their skill and commitment beyond their everyday duties. The 2024 Uniformed Services Sports League continues to promote camaraderie and friendly competition among the nation’s uniformed services.
