The European Union Governance in Justice (EU GoJust) successfully handed-over ICT Equipment to the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), supporting the Completion of BuCor’s Carpeta Digitization Project, on November 18, 2024, at the New Conference Room, National Headquarters, Muntinlupa City.
The EU GoJust donated (7) laptops, seven (7) scanners, and seven (7) biometric machines, which will be utilized in the digitization of carpetas to be included in the Inmate Management Information System (IMIS) of the One BuCor Portal. The digitization of more than 50,000 carpetas will be easily accessible by the Operating Prison and Penal Farms (OPPFs) of the bureau, including other government agencies linked to the BuCor such as the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and Parole and Probation Administration. The EU GoJust also engaged with TrueBPO, Inc. to provide encoding services necessary for the comprehensive digitization of carpetas.
The event was attended by BuCor Director General, GENERAL GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret.), CESE, CCLH, along with USEC DEO L. MARCO of the Department of Justice; ASEC JOSE ARTURO MALVAR of DOJ; ASEC GIL T TORRALBA, Deputy Director General for Security and Operations; C/CSUPT CELSO S BRAVO; H.E MASSIMO SANTORO, EU Ambassador of the Philippines; Ms. Alicia Louro-Pena of the EU; Mr. Christian Eldon, Team Leader-Technical Assistance of Go Just; BuCor OPPF Superintendents, and Go Just Staff.
The process of digitization is crucial in enhancing the monitoring and review of cases. The bureau can now access and analyze information efficiently by converting traditional paper-based records into digital formats. This transformation allows for the quicker identification of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).
The BuCor continuously make efforts to advance and modernize the institution, enhancing and fostering a safer and more effective correctional environment that addresses the needs of PDLs and contributes to the overall improvement of the Philippine Criminal Justice System.
