On 2 February 2025, the Department of Education (DepEd) – Zamboanga City Division conducted the Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E) Test for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) learners enrolled in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) at the Maximum and Medium Security Compound of San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm.
A total of 535 PDL learners participated in the test, with 389 takers from the Elementary level and 146 from the Junior High School level. The DepEd team, led by Chief Examiner Mr. Joseph B. Garcia, consisted 29 personnel.
This initiative aligns with DepEd Order No. 55, s. 2016, and aims to assess the competencies and life skills of individuals who have not completed formal elementary or secondary education, offering them a pathway to certification.
The A&E Test is designed to provide test takers with certification equivalent to elementary or secondary education, assess their readiness for further education or employment, and offer credentials to enhance their job applications, training opportunities, and career progression.
