The newly appointed Director General of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), USEC GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG, JR., AFP, (Ret.), CESE, presided over the Command Conference held at the New Conference Room, National Headquarters, Muntinlupa City after the Thanksgiving Mass at the Ina ng Awa Parish Church on March 28, 2023.
The said conference was attended by the Directorial Group, Superintendents of the NBP Security Camps and different Operating Prisons and Penal Farms (OPPF), along with other Key Officials of BuCor’s Support Services to thoroughly discuss significant operational matters and other upcoming plans of the Bureau.
In attendance also were J/SINSP ANGELINA BAUTISTA (Ret.), Head Executive Assistant, Office of the Director General and concurrent OIC-Deputy Director General for Operations; C/CSUPT GERALDO I ARO, OIC-Deputy Director for Administration and concurrent Director of the Directorate for Administration; CT/SSUPT MA CECILIA V VILLANUEVA MD, OIC-Deputy Director General for Reformation, comcurrent Acting Director, Directorate for Health and Welfare Services and Chief, NBP Hospital; and ATTORNEY AL PERRERAS, Chief of the Legal Service.
USEC CATAPANG discussed the Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act No. 10575. The attendees interacted during the discussion regarding the plans of each OPPFs, Directorates, Divisions and other Offices. One of the centerpieces of the conference was the discussion on establishing and implementing reformation programs, particularly the significance of spiritual counseling for the effective reintegration and well-being of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).
Similarly, USEC CATAPANG mentioned the need to further increase BuCor’s manpower to provide a high-quality corrections service. He emphasized the need for these corrections officers to undergo appropriate seminars and trainings to equip them with additional knowledge, skills and abilities to be more effective and efficient men and women of the Bureau.
