BuCor Sets New Standard in Anti-Contraband Measures

On November 13, 2024, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has installed two Soter RS Human Body Scanners at the National Headquarters, positioned strategically at the Administrative Building entrance and the Inmate Visitation Services Unit. These state-of-the-art scanners are a game-changer in the bureau’s commitment to maintaining security, preventing contraband, and ensuring the safety of everyone within the prison facility.

The installation of these scanners is a step forward in modernizing security protocols and address recent concerns raised by families and visitors of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) regarding strip and cavity searches. With this technology, thorough searches can be conducted without compromising the dignity and privacy of visitors, while still ensuring that no illegal drugs, mobile phones, or other contraband items enter the premises.

BuCor DIRECTOR GENERAL GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR. AFP (Ret), CESE, CCLH, announced plans to add 10 more units across other facilities. These scanners are also in line with the marching order of HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT BONGBONG MARCOS to intensify fight against illegal drugs. By utilizing this advanced technology, communication devices that enable drug trading networks inside the prison will be intercepted.

The Bureau remains dedicated to strengthening anti-drug operations and ensuring that all necessary steps are taken to prevent the proliferation of contraband. The deployment of these scanners is just one part of a broader strategy to enhance security and transparency within prison facilities across the country.
