On August 18, 2023, Iwahig, Puerto Princesa, Palawan – The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Private Sector Partners as part of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Department of Justice (DOJ) Reformation Initiative for Sustainable Environment for Food Security Project or RISE Project at Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF).
The signing was attended by GENERAL GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret.), CESE, BuCor Director General, ENGR. MARIA CHRISTINE C. INTING, MPM, Regional Executive Director, DA RFO IV-B, MR. GERALD GLENN F. PANGANIBAN, Ph.D., Director, Bureau of Plant Industry, Concurrent Program and Director, High-Value Crops Development Program, and National Urban Peri-Urban Agriculture Program and representatives from the nine (9) Private Sector Partners.
This MOA marks the role of collaboration between government agencies with other public-private partnerships to successfully carried out the implementation of the joint project of DA and DOJ RISE Project. Thus, this MOA covers the development and rehabilitation of arable land of BuCor within the prison reservation and penal farms, in support for food production.
Among the Private Sector Partners who joined the agreement are: Enviro Scope Synergy Inc., FA Greenseeds Corp., Yovel East Research and Development, Ramgo Seeds International Corp., Enza Zaden Philippines, Kaneko Seeds Philippines, SL Agritech Corp., Harbest Agribusiness Corp., and Mensch Fil-Am Corp., all these partners assure the DA, DOJ, and BuCor that they will give their full support to fulfill their role as part of the success in achieving this very fruitful project.
Moreover, a launching of techno demo farms and ceremonial seedling planting was also conducted during the program and was followed by a meeting with the concerned agencies.
The Director General, GENERAL CATAPANG JR, and the Superintendent of IPPF, C/CINSP GARY A GARCIA RCrim, MSCA, is looking forward to the significant outcome of this collective effort for this noble project.
