PAO Legal and Medical Services bring much-needed relief to Correctional Institution for Women
In a heartwarming display of dedication and compassion, the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), led by DR. PERSIDA V RUEDA-ACOSTA, DSD, conducted a comprehensive legal and medical service event at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) on October 26, 2023. This initiative, aimed at improving the well-being of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL), marked a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to support those individuals in necessity.
The distinguished guests were welcomed by CT/CSUPT MA. LOURDES M RAZON, Chief, CIW Health and Service Unit, assisted by C/SINSP ELSA M MARTORILLAS, Deputy Superintendent, CTO3 Cherry Huet-Mañago, Chief, PDL Documents and Processing Unit (PDPU).
The initiative encompassed a multifaceted approach, bringing legal, medical, and even entertainment services under one roof. A total of eight hundred thirty-five (835) Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) benefited from this endeavor, receiving much-needed care and attention. Within this group, two hundred thirty-seven (237) individuals had the opportunity to seek legal advice and assistance from the dedicated Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) team.
Additionally, one hundred seventy-five (175) PDL received eye examinations, and some were provided with eyeglasses to enhance their vision. Another two hundred sixty-nine (269) PDL received medical assessments and treatment for various health issues, while one hundred fifty-four (154) were offered dental care.
Adding a touch of warmth and positivity to the event, DR. PERSIDA V RUEDA-ACOSTA, DSD, and her fellow PAO colleagues rendered entertainment through singing, creating a jovial atmosphere that brought smiles to the faces of the attendees.
C/SSUPT DAISY SEVILLA-CASTILLOTE, Acting Superintendent, expressed her profound gratitude to the Public Attorney’s Office for their unwavering support and commitment in serving the incarcerated population. This endeavor is a shining example of how legal and medical professionals can come together to make a
meaningful impact on the lives of those in need.
