Earlier today, the Bureau of Corrections through its Directorate for External Relations headed by CT/SUPT NOEL M MARQUEZ, DVM, and External Affairs Section of all Operating Prison and Penal Farms (OPPF) organized a culminating program for the released of five hundred eighty (580) Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) with the theme “Bagong Buhay at Pag-asa, sa Pagbabago’y Matatamasa” held at the National Headquarters, New Bilibid Prison, Muntinlupa City.

The event was graced by SECRETARY JESUS CRISPIN C. REMULLA of the Department of Justice as the Guest of Honor. Others in attendance also were USEC SERGIO R. CALIZO JR., Chairman of the Board of Pardons and Parole (BPP), ATTY. PERSIDA V. RUEDA-ACOSTA, DSD, Chief of the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) and BuCor Director General, GENERAL GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret.), CESE.

The total number of released PDL Bureauwide consisted of two hundred thirteen (213) at New Bilibid Prison (NBP), thirty-one (31) at Leyte Regional Prison (LRP), sixty-nine (69) at San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF), twenty-three (23) at Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF), thirty-nine (39) at Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF), forty-six (46) at Correctional Institution for Women (CIW), and one hundred fifty-nine (159) at Davao Prison and Penal Farm. It is now the 4th time that BuCor has organized its culminating program for the year 2023. This was made possible through the never-ending support of all government agencies mentioned above in expediting the release of PDL qualified for clemency, especially senior citizens.
In addition, the PDL Document and Processing Division, the Management Screening Evaluation Committee (MSEC), and the Separation Center Office of all OPPFs were also part of the success of the event, especially in their effort to fast-track the documents and processing the release of PDL from their prison camps, respectively.

The Bureau under the headship of BuCor Director General, GENERAL GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret.), CESE continues to implement reintegration programs that will greatly help PDL become productive members of society once freed.
