Senator-elect ERWIN T. TULFO Visits Elderly PDLs at New Bilibid Prison, Vows Support for PDL Welfare
On 10 June 2025, Senator-Elect HON. ERWIN TULFO together with reperesentatives from AID DALAW Nationwide Movement, led by ATTY. BLESSIE ROSE CARPENA paid a visit to the elderly Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the New Bilibid Prison-Minimum Security Camp (NBP-MinSeCamp) in Muntinlupa City.
The visit was warmly received by USEC DEO MARCO of the Department of Justice (DOJ) alongside key officials of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), led by BuCor Director General, GENERAL GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret.), CESE, CCLH; ASEC AL I PERRERAS, Deputy Director General for Administration; CSUPT MICHAEL M MARTIN, Deputy Director, Directorate for Security and Operations; CSUPT ROGER O BONCALES, Acting Superintendent, New Bilibid Prison and CCINSP ROY S VIVO, Camp Commander, NBP-MinSeCamp.
HON. TULFO expressed his strong support for the Bureau’s ongoing programs, particularly those focused on the welfare of elderly PDLs. He underscored his legislative priority to advocate for the release of senior PDLs, specifically those aged 70 and above with medical conditions, through mechanisms such as medical parole or medical probation.
In alignment with this advocacy, Director General CATAPANG JR. encouraged PDLs to remain hopeful, echoing his commitment under the administration’s mantra of “Bagong BuCor sa Bagong Pilipinas.” He reaffirmed that the prompt and lawful release of qualified elderly PDLs remains one of the Bureau’s key priorities.
Following a short message delivered by Hon. Tulfo, DG CATAPANG presented him with a handcrafted art portrait as a token of appreciation for his visit and support toward the elderly PDL community.
The Bureau of Corrections extends its gratitude to Senator-elect Tulfo and participating stakeholders for their continued interest in PDL welfare and engagement in correctional initiatives.
