Earlier today, December 25, 2024, the first batch of visitors exchanged emotional embraces and shared heartfelt moments as they reunited after years of separation.
In an emotional start to the festive season, 196 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) began reuniting with their incarcerated loved ones at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP). The visitation program was held at the Social Hall, National Headquarters, and will run until December 28, 2024.
This program facilitates reunion between PDLs and their family members detained at the Maximum Security Camp, Medium Security Camp, Minimum Security Camp, and Reception and Diagnostic Center (RDC).
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), led by Director General GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret.), CESE, CCLH, spearheaded this initiative to bring comfort and hope to PDLs. BuCor emphasized that family connections are critical to the emotional resilience and rehabilitation of PDLs, especially during holidays.
The reunion will continue over the next three days, demonstrating BuCor’s dedication to humane corrections service by addressing the emotional and psychological needs of its clientele. Through programs like this, the Bureau reaffirms its commitment to rehabilitation and compassion, even within the challenges of incarceration.
