On February 9, 2024, the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) – Fugitive Recovery Team (FRT), in coordination and collaboration with the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF), recaptured a Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL) fugitive from IPPF at Occidental Mindoro, after 25 years in hiding.
The successful apprehension was made possible through the combined efforts of the joint force led by CO2 Richie C Canja, Team Leader, IPPF-FRT, under the supervision of C/CINSP GARY A GARCIA, RCrim, MSCA, IPPF Superintendent together with the SPPF Team composed of their Special Operations Group (SOG) and Quick Response Force (QRF) under the supervision of C/SUPT ROBERT A VENERACION, SPPF Superintendent along with Sablayan MPS personnel.
The recaptured escapee has been returned to IPPF for custody. Additionally, the fugitive will undergo the complete legal process and is anticipated to face criminal charges in line with his escape.
Through the persistence and dedication of the IPPF Superintendent, C/CINSP GARCIA, and the unending support of BuCor Director General GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret.), CESE, CCLH, it aims to recover fugitives to hold them accountable according to their offenses.
