The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and Philippine Playhouse, Inc. officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to strengthen the implementation of CIW Ang Teatro, a reformation program aimed at nurturing the artistic and theatrical talents of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs). The signing ceremony marked a significant step in sustaining rehabilitative efforts within correctional facilities.
Representing the Bureau was CT/SUPT MARJORIE ANN P SANIDAD, MD, RN, FIAMS, CIW Acting Superintendent, while Ms. Ana Regina Valdes Lim represented the Philippine Playhouse, Inc. The ceremony highlighted the seriousness of the purpose of both institutions to give meaningful avenues for PDLs to learn and hone their skills in performing arts, nurture self-expression, discipline, and personal development.
The CIW Ang Teatro program has played a vital role in the rehabilitation process, offering PDLs structured creative activities that enhance their confidence, teamwork, and emotional well-being. Through this collaboration, workshops, performances, and skill-building sessions will continue to be conducted, ensuring the long-term viability of the initiative.
BuCor’s partnership with Philippine Playhouse, Inc. aligns with its broader mission to implement progressive reformation programs that prepare PDLs for eventual reintegration into society. By engaging in theatrical arts, participants acquire valuable skills and a renewed sense of purpose and self-worth.
The signing of the MOA signals a renewed dedication to exploring innovative rehabilitation strategies, demonstrating that the performing arts can be a powerful tool for transformation and second chances. Both organizations expressed optimism that this initiative will inspire positive change and contribute to a more rehabilitative correctional environment.
